The Heating and Cooling Skills Station in association with Corgi Services
|
|
|
 |
We want to make sure you leave InstallerLive with new skills whilst gaining the knowledge on how to manage, implement and take advantage of eco technologies. That's why we have signposted each session within the core stations to be either an 'upskill', 'installer business opportunity' or 'business growth skills' focus. |
Upskill: provide essential learning for installers on eco technologies Installer Business Opportunity: an introductory guide to the technologies and how to use them most effectively providing signposts to training, accreditation and qualifications you can trust Business Growth Skills: outlining key business skills you need to make sure are in place and the business opportunities that are open to you

Upskill:Introduction to the Design and Specification of Multifuel Hot Water
Richard Hanson-Greville, Technical Manager, Thermal Integration Limited The presentation takes installers through the design of thermal storage systems with a view to combining different heat sources, including wood, solar, gas, oil, heat pumps and electric for provision of hot water and central heating. Installers will be walked through thermal storage options, shown how to use the latest online design software, and by the end of the talk will be able to go away and design a fairly complex system from start to finish for their customers, as well as produce schematic diagrams and generate full design calculations.

Promoting Energy Efficient Heating Systems to Consumers
John Breen, Sales Director, Glen Dimplex
We may be planning for a future of renewable heat systems, but the reality is that gas-powered boilers will be around for many years to come. So it is important that installers can explain the benefits of energy efficient systems clearly, and explain the long term cost benefits of opting for energy efficient alternatives relative to initial outlay.

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme Explained
Steve Davies, Lead MCS Inspector, NICEIC
This presentation outlines the MCS scheme and the renewable energy technologies that it covers. It provides a general introduction to microgeneration, rather than an in-depth technical talk. As such, it is aimed at plumbing and heating engineers and electrical contractors, who are new to renewable energy technologies, but are considering diversifying into renewable installations.
It therefore provides an overview of each of the 8 MCS technologies, plus a step-by-step explanation of how to gain MCS accreditation.

Introduction to Heat Pumps
Tony Lobley, Training Manager, Viessmann
Covering the basics of how a heat pump works, how we take heat and convert it, correct sizing for ground source including the alternatives for groundworks, principles of natural and active cooling which is sometimes a requirement for well insulated homes in the summer and heat pumps, not boilers, can deliver this. System design for small to large systems and wiring requirements. Controls integration with additional renewables or non-renewable back up heating systems.

Specifying Small Scale Renewables for Projects
Matthew Rhodes, Managing Director, Encraft
Managing customer expectations for small scale renewable energy projects can be challenging because performance varies so widely with location and building type. National methodologies aren't always customer-friendly, and it's important not to spend too much time and money pre-sale quoting and specifying projects. This presentation will explain how to specify and price up renewables projects accurately and quickly at low cost without losing customer confidence.
